Plain-English summary
ComicToons has no accounts, no login, and no servers of ours. Your comic files, reading progress, favorites and ratings live only in the app's local storage on your phone. If you connect a WebDAV library, your credentials stay on your device and talk directly to your own server — we never see them. The Discover tab fetches public titles and covers from AniList (and occasionally MyAnimeList) — no personal data is attached to those requests.
What We Collect
Because ComicToons doesn't have user accounts or a backend server, there is very little for us to "collect" in the traditional sense. Here's everything the app stores, and where it lives:
Your local library
Comic, manga and novel files you import (CBZ, CBR, 7Z, PDF, EPUB), plus reading progress, favorites, folders and star ratings. All of it stays in the app's storage on your device.
WebDAV credentials
If you connect a WebDAV server, its address, username and password are saved locally on your device and used only to talk directly to your server. We have no access to this data or your server.
Discover browsing
Opening the Discover tab sends a title/genre lookup directly to AniList's public API, so cover art and ratings can load. These requests carry no name, email or device ID from you.
App preferences
Theme, sort order, notification settings and other in-app choices, saved locally so the app remembers how you like things set up.
What We Don't Do
Just as important as what we collect is what we deliberately don't:
- No accounts or logins. There is nothing to sign up for, and nothing tied to your identity.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs. The app ships with zero third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting libraries.
- No ads. Nothing in the app serves or targets advertising.
- No selling or sharing of data. We couldn't sell what we don't have — there's no user database on our end to sell from.
- No uploading of your files. Your comics never leave your device unless you personally configure a WebDAV server for them to sync to.
Third-Party Services
The Discover tab is powered by two independent, public metadata services. ComicToons only sends them a search or browse query — never your name, email or any device identifier.
| Service | What we send | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| AniList (anilist.co) | Title / genre / sort queries only | Cover art, synopses, ratings, tags for the Discover feed. See AniList's own policy. |
| Jikan (MyAnimeList API) | Title lookup only | Occasional score enrichment. See Jikan's documentation. |
If you connect your own WebDAV server, that traffic goes directly between your device and your server — it never passes through us or any service we operate.
Device Permissions
ComicToons asks for a small set of Android permissions, each used for exactly one purpose:
Biometric unlock is handled entirely by Android's own system prompt — your fingerprint or face data never reaches the app or leaves your device.
Storage & Retention
Your library, progress, favorites and settings are stored in the app's private local storage. They're retained for as long as the app stays installed, and are erased automatically when you uninstall it — the same as any file removed from your device. Data on a WebDAV server you've connected is governed by that server's own retention, since it's yours to manage.
Children's Privacy
ComicToons is not directed at children under 13, and since the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children either.
Your Choices
Because everything lives on your device, you're always in control:
- Disconnect a WebDAV server at any time from Settings — its saved credentials are removed from the app immediately.
- Turn biometric app-lock on or off whenever you like.
- Remove individual comics, folders or your entire library from within the app at any time.
- Uninstalling the app deletes all locally stored app data along with it.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes — for example, if a future update adds a new feature that touches data differently — we'll update the effective date above and, for any meaningful change, note it in the app's changelog.
